Frequently asked questions

What is an IEEPA tariff refund?
When tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act are reduced or eliminated, importers who overpaid can file for a refund through CBP’s CAPE portal. Tariffi automates the data preparation; your licensed customs broker partner files the declaration.
Who is eligible for a CAPE declaration refund?
Any U.S. importer of record who paid IEEPA or Section 301 tariffs on qualifying entries within the applicable lookback period may be eligible. Tariffi analyzes your ACE ES-003 export to identify qualifying entries automatically.
How long does the refund process take?
CAPE Phase 1 declarations are processed by CBP on a rolling basis. Most importers see refunds within 60–90 days of a successful filing, though timelines vary based on CBP workload and entry complexity.
Does Tariffi file with CBP directly?
No. Tariffi is a data-preparation platform, not a licensed customs broker. Your licensed broker partner is always the Filer of Record under 19 U.S.C. § 1641. Tariffi prepares the CAPE declaration data; your broker reviews, approves, and transmits via ACE.
