Frequently asked questions
- What is a CBP port code?
- A CBP port code is a four-digit identifier assigned by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to each port of entry. It appears on your import documentation (including ACE ES-003 exports) and identifies where your goods entered the United States.
- Does it matter which port my goods entered through for tariff refund eligibility?
- No. CAPE Phase 1 tariff refund eligibility is determined by the HTS classification and tariff type (IEEPA/Section 301), not the port of entry. Entries through any U.S. port that paid qualifying tariffs are eligible for recovery.
- How do I find my port of entry?
- Your port of entry is listed on your CBP entry summary (CF-7501) and in your ACE ES-003 export. It corresponds to the physical location where your goods cleared customs, which may be a seaport, airport, or land border crossing.
- Can I file for tariff refunds on entries through multiple ports?
- Yes. A single CAPE declaration can include entries from multiple ports of entry. Tariffi's automated analysis identifies all qualifying entries regardless of which port they entered through.
- What are the busiest ports for IEEPA-affected imports?
- Los Angeles, Long Beach, New York/Newark, and JFK Airport handle the highest volumes of imports subject to IEEPA and Section 301 tariffs. However, every port processes tariff-affected goods — your specific recovery depends on your entries, not the port.
