What is FBA?

Fulfillment by Amazon — a logistics service where Amazon stores, picks, packs, and ships goods for sellers. In the context of U.S. customs and tariff recovery, understanding fba is essential for navigating the CAPE refund process and ensuring accurate duty assessment.

Definition

Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) is a logistics service where sellers send their inventory to Amazon's fulfillment centers, and Amazon handles storage, picking, packing, shipping, customer service, and returns. For importers, FBA is often the final link in the supply chain — goods clear customs, are transported to an Amazon warehouse, and are then sold and shipped by Amazon. FBA sellers who import from China or other countries subject to IEEPA/Section 301 tariffs pay duties at the time of importation, just like any other importer.

How FBA Relates to Tariff Refunds

FBA sellers are fully eligible for CAPE refund claims on their import duties. Many FBA sellers import directly (as the Importer of Record) or through a customs broker. If you paid IEEPA or Section 301 tariffs on goods you sell through FBA, those duties may be recoverable. Tariffi's platform works with your ES-003 data regardless of whether the goods ultimately go to Amazon, your own warehouse, or retail stores.

Example

An Amazon FBA seller imports $300,000 of consumer goods from China, paying $75,000 in Section 301 duties. The goods go directly to an Amazon fulfillment center. When the Section 301 rate is reduced, the seller files a CAPE claim through their broker to recover the overpayment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are FBA sellers eligible for tariff refunds?
Yes. If you are the Importer of Record and paid IEEPA or Section 301 duties, your entries are eligible for CAPE refund claims regardless of how the goods are subsequently distributed.
Does Amazon help with tariff refund claims?
Amazon does not manage customs duties or refund claims for third-party sellers. FBA sellers need to work with their own customs broker (or through Tariffi) to file CAPE declarations.
