What is Notify Party?

In ACE, the entity designated to receive notification of refund processing, including electronic Form 4811 submissions. In the context of U.S. customs and tariff recovery, understanding notify party is essential for navigating the CAPE refund process and ensuring accurate duty assessment.

Definition

In the ACE system, a Notify Party is an entity designated to receive electronic notifications about refund processing, entry status changes, and other CBP communications. The Notify Party system was significantly modernized in February 2026 when CBP moved to an electronic 'Notify Parties' tab in ACE, replacing the paper Form 4811 process. A Notify Party can be the importer, their broker, a third-party agent, or any entity authorized to receive these communications. The Notify Party does not need to be the same as the Importer of Record.

How Notify Party Relates to Tariff Refunds

For CAPE refund claims, the Notify Party designation ensures you receive timely updates on refund processing status. When your broker files a CAPE declaration, they also register the appropriate Notify Party through the ACE portal. This is how you know when CBP has processed your refund and when the ACH payment is en route.

Example

The broker designates the importer's treasury department as the Notify Party for all CAPE-related communications. When CBP processes the refund declaration, the treasury department receives an electronic notification that $1.2 million has been approved for payment.
